Every year, De Soto High School’s Thespian Troupe 1979 competes in Thescon, which allows students to audition, perform, receive feedback, and qualify for scholarships through acting, singing, and crew events
This year, De Soto truly stood out. Several students received excellent and superior ratings, while two students received a perfect score.
Levi Fandel, Mak Lackey, Arabella Flanagan, Mason Fry, Kaylee Rutschman, Olivia Hamer, Sydney Mater, Mak Lackey, Hayes Keating, Maggie Stelzer, and Natalie Ester all got excellent ratings from a mix of solos, duets, and set/prop designs. Lily MacDougall and Mailee Nyguen received a good rating with a duet.
Additionally, Evan Brame, Gavin Meisch, Lily MacDougal, Brooke Mermis, and Sydney Mater collected superior ratings for singing and acting performances, while Sophia Mateo received a superior rating for makeup design.
Two more thespians, Savannah Hendry and Carson Hanley, received a perfect score on their duet. Once again, Savannah secured another perfect score on her solo, “Screw Loose” from the show Crybaby.
With these top-tier performances, Thespian troupe 1979 secured a spot at the International Thespian Festival in Bloomington, Indiana, over the summer, where they are able to showcase their selected events to receive additional ratings from judges nationwide.
