Award season has begun! January 11th, 2026, saw the Golden Globes, which started the award season off with a bang. From comedian Nikki Glaser’s sharp wit to the audience’s incredulous reactions, the Golden Globes were filled with funny moments, emotional speeches, and all-around good times.
The Golden Globes primarily center around excellence in film and television, and are voted on by Members of the Golden Globe Foundation through a multi-round ballot system. During the show this past Sunday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, the winners of various categories were announced
With Nicki Glaser as both the host and the comedic relief during the Golden Globes, laughs were constant. Some notable presenters during the show also included George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Dakota Fanning, Hailee Steinfeld, Melissa McCarthy, Snoop Dog, and Miley Cyrus.
In the film category, One Battle After Another swept with four wins. In the Best Motion Picture category, One Battle After Another won (musical/comedy) and Hamnet won (drama). Best Actor (drama) was Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent, and Best Actress (drama) was Jessie Buckley for Hamnet. Best Actor (musical/comedy) was Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme, and Best Actress (musical/comedy) was Rose Byrne for If I had legs I’d Kick You.
Focusing on the television category, Adolescence (a Netflix Production) swept the show with four wins. In the Best Series category, The Pitt won (drama), The Studio won (comedy), and Adolescence (limited series/TV movie). Best Actor went to Noah Wyle for The Pitt (drama) and Seth Rogan for The Studio (musical/comedy). Best Actress went to Rhea Seehorn for Pluribus (drama) and Jean Smart for Hacks (musical/comedy).
This year’s Golden Globes also included some record-breaking wins and major upsets. The youngest-ever winner for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series was won by 16-year-old Owen Cooper for his role as Jamie Miller in Adolescence. The inaugural Golden Globe for Best Podcast was won by Amy Poehler for her podcast Good Hang. Some notable upsets included Sinner’s defeat in the screenplay award to Paul Thomas Anderson for One Battle After Another, as well as Wicked: For Good, which went home empty-handed, despite being heavily nominated.
Overall, the Golden Globes were a wonderful success. Audiences around America celebrated as it highlighted some of the most deserving films of the year, with some unexpected twists and winners. Who knows what’s in store for the rest of the awards season?
