With a new grocery store opening in De Soto called Harps, new job opportunities have been spread throughout the students of De Soto High School and other members of the De Soto community.

Since the opening of Harps on Nov. 9, juniors Kyle Bell and Darren Winans, plus more DHS students, have had the opportunity to learn communication skills, time management skills and other things valued by employers. In order to maintain their jobs as baggers, cashiers and stockers, these skills have become an everyday usage.

“One thing that I’ve learned from working at Harps is that you need to have a lot of communication skills, like being able to talk and work out situations with your boss or co workers,” Bell said.

Although a lot of skills like these can be taught in DHS,  it is important that students learn how to react in real life situations.  

According to the workers at Harps, there is little to no conflict among coworkers, and everyone gets along well. For many of its employers, Harps is a place to meet new people and friends.

“Working at Harps is very fun and fast paced. Everyone is super nice and it’s a happy atmosphere,” Winans said. “Work is never boring, and it has allowed me to meet cool new people.”
