The 2014 wrestling season was a good season for the Wildcats. At the State wrestling tournament, junior Chandler Carter placed fourth. Juniors Josh Miller and Hunter Miller* both qualified for the State tournament as well, and junior Hunter Miller was league champion for the second year in a row.
“I think we got better, which is the most important thing. We ended on a good note with Chandler Carter getting fourth place in State,” wrestling coach Shannon Sawner said.
The team will continue workouts, as coach Sawner likes to call them, throughout spring break and into the summer.
Next year’s expectations are high, as all of the team’s varsity wrestlers are returning to compete.
“Hopefully, we can get better and improve as a team. If each individual gets better, then the team will get better,” Sawner said.
The desire for improvement is shared by the members of the team.
“The season was pretty good. We had a lot of guys improve,” Carter said. “Next year I’d like to repeat a 30 win season and also place higher at State.”
The coaching staff of the wrestling team is returning as well. Overall, the expectations for the wrestling team’s 2014-15 season are set high.
