This year De Soto High School’s football team has started off the season with a record of 6-1. Sophomore Jackson Miller is the starting quarterback for the team and plays a big part in their wins.

“Our season is going pretty well. We had a bad loss last week, but we’re going to come back and try and do well in the playoffs,” Miller said. “I’m just doing whatever I can to help the team and make sure that we succeed.”

Miller has been playing football ever since he was a little kid.

“I’ve been playing tackle football since third grade and before that I played flag football,” Miller said.

The reason why Miller started playing football is because his dad played in college and he has always liked watching and playing the sport in his free time.

Before the season started, Miller didn’t know what to expect, but now he has a lot of confidence in his teammates and coaching staff.

“I was thinking we [the team] were going to be young. I didn’t know how good we were going to be, but so far we’ve been as good as I thought we could be,” Miller said.

Over the past couple of games, Miller feels that he has gained more knowledge on his team and his opponents.

“I have a lot more experience now because I hadn’t had any varsity time at all [last year], but over the course of these last six games I think I have learned a lot about other teams’ defense[s] and our team’s offense,” Miller said.

Sophomore Blaine Church, one of Miller’s teammates said,”He [Miller] is very honest, plus a great leader and a great athlete.”

The football team has goals for their season and Miller is doing his best to help his teammates reach them.
