Students start planning for their summer
With finals and the end of the school year approaching, students have started to dream about what their summer will look like. The variety of summer plans at De Soto High School are abundant.
For a lot of student athletes, like freshman Weston Madden, this summer will be packed with summer workouts and training camps.
“Starting in June I’ll be going to weights and open gyms every morning for basketball and baseball,” Madden said. “It can get pretty busy sometimes, and there isn’t a lot of free time for me in summer.”
Other students, like junior Kaitlyn Bell will spend a lot of their summer working.
“I work at the De Soto Aquatic Center in the summers as a lifeguard and it’s a super fun job, but it also takes up most of my time in the summer, so I have to plan around work most days,” Bell said.
Then there is the lucky few like sophomore Hugo Nascimento, who will get to travel.
“Me and my family are going to Colorado this summer and I’m super excited,” Nascimento said. “It’ll be nice to take a break from school to relax and hike and kind of explore.”
Junior Peter Nyugen agrees that the next majority of summer plans are to work on summer projects for school.
“I’m going to have to spend a pretty big chunk of my time working on my AP Lit summer project, and I know that a ton of my friends will be working on their AP projects too,” Nguyen said.
Finally, the seniors who will be leaving for college or other ventures will be spending their last summer with all of their closest friends like senior Chloe Byers.
“I already know this summer is going to fly by so I hope to spend most of my time with my friends and just hanging out before stressing about college,” Byers said.
Hopefully amongst all of these summer plans, students will remember to relax and enjoy their summer break before the 2018-19 school year begins.
