Letter from the Editors: Issue 4
Dear student body,
With finals week underway and Christmas break just around the corner, we are very excited to put out Issue 4, our final issue for the semester. This issue we focused on – you guessed it – holidays.
To follow our holiday theme, our cover features DHS band members performing at the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting, which corresponds with the story about the band and choir ringing in the holidays this month. We included stories about three different DHS students who celebrate various holidays with unique traditions, including Christmas, Hanukkah and the Islamic holiday Eid which happened to fall in December this year. Similarly, we featured the FACS classes again, this time for ‘adopting’ two foster children to buy presents for this holiday season. Our back page is a game: students can guess which newspaper staff member is in each picture from when they were little on Christmas morning. The answers will be below.
Moving away from the holiday theme, we have a spread dedicated to 2016 and all the events that happened this year, our year in review. We also have stories about twin band members who perform at the Jazz Museum in Kansas City, a senior who has exceeded in the business program at DHS, students who have obtained jobs at the new grocery store in De Soto, an opinion on the possibly rising amounts of bullying since the presidential election and stories about girls’ basketball, bowling and swimming.
This issue we had our first work night of the year. We made this decision due to an impending snowstorm that never actually happened. However, with an inflexible deadline due to Christmas break, having the work night was extremely useful and also very fun. This helped with the rush we felt to put out this issue before Christmas break and allowed us to make it into the best it could possibly be.
We are extremely proud of how Issue 4 turned out, and we hope you enjoy it too!
Sincerely,
Sydney Hoover and Emma Bascom
