This year’s tennis Regionals was held at De Soto High School on Oct. 9 -10. Overall, DHS took third place behind Spring Hill High School who took second, and, Bishop Meige High School who took first place.

“We played really well and we had a lot of success,” head coach Justin Hoffman said. “From Varsity to JV, everybody played really well. [They] battled and worked hard.”

Singles players senior Jamie Kieffer and junior Emily Parr competed at Regionals. In doubles, sophomore Raegen Ramsdell partnered with junior Emily Euler, and seniors Taylor Hansen and Olivia Young were teamed up.

The top six players in Regionals were able to advance to State. This year, DHS had three seniors qualify for State. Kieffer qualified with a record of 10-13. Hansen and Young qualifiedwith a record of 25-9.

During Regionals, Kieffer and Parr both won their first round matches. In a tough battle, they fell to their opponents in their second matches and ended up having to play each other in the back draw. Kieffer defeated Parr 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-0 to advance to State.

Doubles partners Ramsdell and Euler won their first match, then advanced to the second round.

They had to face the other DHS doubles team of Hansen and Young in the second round. Hansen and Young won 6-0, 6-2.

“Our second match together we actually played Taylor and Olivia, the team for De Soto and lost to them. Both teams think we played pretty good against each other. The coaches told us it is the best they had seen,” Ramsdell said.

following that match, Hanson and Young lost in the semifinals, but they rebounded to take the third place match.

Coming away with three girls going to State, DHS will now prepare for their next matches at Winfield High School on Oct. 16-17.
