As most fall sports have ended by now, the boys’ varsity soccer team ended the regular season with an overall of 9-6-1 which secured them the No. 9 seed in the playoffs. 

The boys were matched up with the eighth seed, Basehor-Linwood High School. 

“I felt pretty optimistic about the team going into the postseason,” senior Kyle Newberry said. “We definitely had the skills and work ethic to go far, as long as we  play our game.” 

The team opened the postseason with a 4-0 win overBasehor-Linwood. 

The Wildcats advanced into the Regional finals where they played the undefeated Mill Valley Jaguars, whose record was 15-0-1. 

“When I  found out that we would be playing Mill Valley in our next game I got a little nervous,” senior Logan Boehm said. “I knew that they were undefeated so I figured that it would be a really good game.” 

The boy’s team faced off against Mill Valley on Thursday, Oct. 28. 

“The most important aspect in keeping the team focused and ready to play is making sure we only worry about the game ahead of us,” Newberry said. “Not getting stuck up on previous games or looking too far ahead.” 

DHS managed to scrape by and beat the Mill Valley Jaguars 1-0, earning themselves the title of Regional champions. 

“I was ecstatic,” Boehm said. “In my four years at De Soto we’ve never once beaten them and I’m glad we could do it in my senior year.”

DHS advanced into the State quarterfinals against defending 5A State champions Saint Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday, Nov. 2 where the Wildcat fell 6-0. However, the boys still had an amazing season and accomplished more than anyone could have expected.
