The De Soto boys soccer team has suffered a tough season so far going 3-8 overall after the team’s 3-1 over Basehor-Linwood on Oct. 6. With a young varsity team, the Wildcats are hoping to turn it around with the upcoming conference games and come out on top at Regionals.

With the loss of 15 seniors a year ago, the soccer team has had to focus on rebuilding and redeveloping its program. One challenge of that is the new bonds formed between upperclassmen and younger players.

“In the beginning, there wasn’t any trust between the new players and older players, but now I feel we’ve crossed a bridge and there’s a lot more connection than there was before,” junior Logan Boehm said.

Despite the rough start to the season, many players and coaches believe they can compete in Regionals and bring home the title.

“There are a lot of factors to advancing deep into the playoffs including timing, meaning can we peak at the right time and can we stay playing well and improving,” head coach Drew Proctor said.

With only five regular-season games left, the boys hope to win their remaining games to further improve team morale and head into the playoffs with a good attitude.

“I feel like we understand the game faster than we did at the start of the season and that the game is faster paced … less varsity experience than normal.  We improved physically as well as in possession and attacking wisely” Proctor said.

The boys’ soccer team is in a tough playoff bracket, including many more experienced, skillful teams. 

“I think if we play like we’ve been playing we should be fine. Good  things come to those who work hard,” Boehm said

There have been many very unfortunate losses for the boys’ soccer team, but that’s not getting in the way of their goal winning Regionals.
