De Soto High School will have its Winter Homecoming basketball games on Feb. 7. Girls’ varsity will play at 5:45 p.m., followed by the boys’ varsity game at 7:15 p.m. 

Jones thinks the games will be incredibly eventful and a fun way to support both the school and the winter homecoming candidates. All students are encouraged to come see the teams play. 

“I think students should come out to every game, home and away, boys and girls, because both teams are doing great this season and have the potential to have a deep playoff run,” said senior boys’ varsity player Colton Jones . 

The games will be played against Lansing. Both teams have been working hard all season and are ready to show their work on the court. 

“The girls are excited for the game because it should be a close game that we will be prepared for and we can’t wait to see the turnout for who’s awarded at the end of the game,” said senior girls varsity player Lamyah Ricks.  

At the game, there will be special recognition for the Winter Homecoming court candidates as well. Both teams have multiple players up for court and have been looking forward to supporting their teammates at the game. 

“I feel like it’s important to not only support the boy candidates, but also the girls. Three of our starters on the team are up for court and that’s a huge accomplishment and success for our team to feel appreciated,” Ricks said. 

The teams have had great seasons and feel prepared for the upcoming games. Both teams have been working hard at practice and growing their teamwork. 

At a recent Tonganoxie tournament, the boys’ varsity team won with a score of 68-54. The team took this win after playing the Metro Academy Mavericks.

“Overall we aren’t doing anything different, we just go into every game and impose our will with a champion’s mindset and believe that we are going to get a win,” Jones said.
