De Soto football tackles Louisburg
The De Soto High School football team played its third game of the season on Sept 15 in Louisburg, collecting its third win of the season and second shutout in a row.
The game started with a scoop and score by senior defensive back Brayden Brummer in the first few minutes, and the game was only uphill from there.
Senior quarterback Bryce Mohl ran in a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Connor Strouse to make the score 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.
During the second quarter, Mohl ran in another touchdown, and senior kicker Ethan Rodriguez made his fourth PAT to bring the score to 28-0 at the half.
In the second half, senior running back Trevor Watts scored a touchdown after a 40-yard run, and Rodriguez scored another PAT, bringing the score to 35-0.
The last touchdown of the night was scored by senior fullback Leo Oplotnik making the final score 41-0.
Going into the game, DHS was looking for revenge after losing to Louisburg 21-17 last year.
“We had a chip on our shoulder coming into this game knowing that they beat us last year,” Watts said.
The team prepared for the game by watching film and adjusting their plays that would help them beat Louisburg.
“Throughout the week, we have film studies and then [practice against] opponent formations live,” Brummer said. “This helps us get aligned so we know our assignments so when it comes game time, we are ready to go.”
With the successes they’ve been having, the Wildcats look forward to having a positive rest of the season.
“We have a lot of great players that are really talented,” Watts said. “As long as we keep putting in work each week and improving, I believe we could go really far into the playoffs.”
The Wildcats’ is the homecoming game against Paola on Sept 22. The student section theme is white out; however, unlike previous years, baby powder is not allowed at the game.
