Volleyball Team Wins All Academic Award
The De Soto High School volleyball team received the prestigious all academic kva Kansas Volleyball Association award for the 2016 season.
All of the GPA’s of the players were combined to determine the winner.
“I nominated my team this year, all of the girls’ GPA’s from first semester were calculated together, and as long as our team GPA was at least a 3.3 we were eligible to receive the award,” head volleyball coach Lindsay Hothan said.
This isn’t the first time that De Soto’s volleyball team has received the KVA award, it was also achieved two years ago by the team.
The students who received the first team award were Ally Barnhart, Jackie Kennard, Riley Moore, Maya Bascom and Haley Cuba. An honorable mention was player Loren Hinkle.
“We just found out about it a couple days ago. Mrs. Hothan called us into her office and told us and she had a certificate, so that was cool,” junior defensive specialist Riley Moore said.
The highly regarded award was well deserved with the volleyball team ringing in a combined GPA well over the 3.3 requirement.
