The 2016 De Soto high school varsity tennis team traveled to a highly competitive tournament at Hesston High School on Sept. 10. Doubles team junior Carly Bodenhausen and junior Kelsey Heer ended the day with a record of 2-2. Senior Emily Parr picked up the same record at the No. 1 singles spot. 

“Overall, Carly and I did really well. I was very proud of the way we played together and that we battled through each match,” Heer said.

Heer also stated that the tournament was more challenging than some of the other schools De Soto plays, but was proud that they all played well that day.

As well as this, they had a another all-day tournament at Baldwin High School on Sept. 14, where the Wildcats picked up a third-place team finish. 

The girls who played singles in the match were Parr (No. 1 singles) and Bailey Ramsdell (No. 2 singles). Senior Emily Euler and Heer were No. 1 doubles partners and junior Reagan Ramsdell and Bodenhausen were no. 2 doubles partners.

Euler and Heer finished the day with a third-place medal. The rest of the squad all finished in fourth place in their individual division. Parr and Bailey both went 3-2 on the day in singles. Reagan and Bodenhausen also closed with a record of 3-2. 

The players were satisfied with how they did and were happy that they got the chance to play.

“Personally, I think I did well at my match on Wednesday,” Bodenhausen said. “My serves and returns were better than usual. I also felt more comfortable and relaxed and it allowed me to play better.”

Along with playing well, members enjoyed the match and are excited for the upcoming games.

“The best part about Wednesday was playing with Raegen all day and having a fun time,” Bodenhausen said.

The varsity squad will take action at home this Saturday, Sept. 24, when DHS hosts the Wildcat Invitational.
