As school year comes to an end, so does De Soto High School’s girls’ soccer team’s season.

The girls had a great season, according to assistant varsity and head junior varsity coach Melissa Stone.

The season started with tryouts February 29.

“[Try outs] went better than expected, I knew we were going to have a talented team, there were a lot of girls that I was not aware of that played JV this year that otherwise would have, not only played varsity but contribute to varsity. I was really impressed,” head varsity coach Jesse Smith said.

The girls had their last game on May 12 against Baldwin High School that both JV and Varsity won, also earing DHS the girls soccer Frontier League title.

“I think the expectations were really high. We talked as a team and our goals were to win thirteen games and we wanted to win League. We set some really high goals and we came very close to reaching them,” Smith said.

Varsity ended their season with a record of 11 – 3 – 2 and JV ended their season with 13 – 1 – 2.

“From top to bottom, this is the most talented team our program has ever had,” Smith said.

The team is going into Regionals as a number three seed.

Their first game competing for the Regional title is against Lawrence – Bishop Seabury Academy at 5: 30 on May 17 at home.

The championship game will be hosted by DHS as well.

“Our hard work has paid off with us being a three seed and getting a path to State that is very attainable,” Smith said.

Smith has his eyes set on the prize.

“I want us to win State,” Smith said.
