Corneliusen achieves volleyball honors
Senior Kylie Corneliusen was named to the Lawrence Journal All-Area team and committed to Neosho County Community College for her volleyball skills as a libero (defensive specialist).
Kylie thinks that achieving all-area will help her in college volleyball.
“Receiving this award allows me and pushes me to set my goals high for next year in college,” Kylie said.
Kylie also believes this award is so special to her because “… there are so many great volleyball players in this area. This means so much to me.”
“I was very excited, happy and humbled,” Corneliusen said.
Kylie’s brother Hunter believes this award meant so much to Kylie because “… It’s been really cool to see her grow over the years. She’s a really good player and she puts in so much hard work. She definitely deserves this. Volleyball is huge for her. It’s basically everything, outside of school.”
“I plan to major in education and one day coach. Yes, in the fall I will be very busy, but I feel up to the challenge,” Kylie said.
Hunter thinks Kylie will have a positive college experience.
“I know that if she keeps working hard and playing like she can, she’ll take care of it. I’m not too nervous for her,” Hunter said.
Kylie knows that she could not have gotten to where she is without her peers and mentors.
“My coaches have pushed me to become the best that I can be, and without my teammates, nothing is possible. It also really helped that we had a good season and finished toward the top in our league,” Kylie said.
Hunter agrees that this award is special because “…She puts in a lot of hard work for how small she is, and sometimes she gets overwhelmed. Yeah, she deserves it,” Hunter joked.
