Wildcats ink letters of intent
Since spring of 2014, De Soto High School Athletic and Activities director John Sedler has had a few signings take place during Seminar so that more students could attend. Previously he had stated that he wanted to make it a bigger deal and get the rest of the school involved.
On Feb. 4, four DHS students signed to continue their athletic journey onto the next level.
“It’s a credit to the parents, the grandparents, the youth coaches, the entire community. That’s why we pull everyone together because we all share their successes. As they go, we go,” Sedler said.
Senior Kenna Hall will attend Cowley Community College in the fall where she will be playing volleyball for head coach Riann Mullis.
“Her strong volleyball background and academic success will help us continue our tradition both on and off the court. I believe that Kenna will be a large contributor for us next season and I look forward to coaching her,” Mullis said.
Hall plans on majoring in athletic training.
“I’m looking forward to meeting new people and bettering myself on the court,” Hall said.
Senior Brittani Jenson signed to continue her golf career at Iowa Central Community College.
After a major setback of not being able to play golf during her junior year, Jenson returned her senior year and won the 4A State Championship.
Jenson will be “continuing a passion” that she has worked towards for 13 years and plans on majoring in sports and event management.
She hopes to go to a Division I school after her two years at Iowa Central Community College.
After deciding to run track next year, senior Tori Marshall signed with Mid-America Nazerene University as a 100 meter, 200 meter and 400 meter runner.
“I was kind of looking at basketball, but I heard more for track than basketball,” Marshall said.
Marshall wants to major in Psychology and a do a little bit of biology due to wanting to take a pre-medicine path.
Lastly, senior Meredith Wolfe signed to run cross country, indoor and outdoor track at Pittsburg State University.
Wolfe decided on Pittsburg State because they have a good program for what she wants to major in.
“It’s just going to be super fun continuing something that I love and competing at a higher level. I really loved their running program. I wasn’t completely positive about the town; I had heard different things about it’s reputation, but then I fell in love with their technology program,” Wolfe said. “I love the team and I realized those are the two things I’m really going to be there for. I’m just really excited to make new memories and experiences there.”
