Wildcats reach State tourney for first time since 1995

For the first time since 1995 the De Soto High School volleyball team is heading back to the State tournament after claiming the Sub-State title on its home gym Oct. 25.

DHS swept both of its opponents en route to the championship, including a 25-20, 25-19 win over Eudora to open the tournament. In the final match, De Soto defeated Basehor-Linwood 25-18, 25-13. DHS fell to BLHS three times during the regular season.

The Wildcats, 29-10 overall, enter the State tournament as the No. 6 seed and will face Andale (4:30 p.m.), McPherson (5:30 p.m.) and Louisburg (7:30 p.m.) in Pool Play on Oct. 31. De Soto finished second to Louisburg in the Frontier League race this year.

The KSHASS 4A Div. I State Volleyball Tournament will be played at the Bicentennial Center in Salina, Kansas. The top two finishers from each pool will advance to the championship bracket on Nov. 1.
