Cross Country qualifies for State for 11th straight year
For the 11th year in a row both the boys’ and girls’ De Soto High School cross country teams are headed to State. The boys won the title and the girls took second at the 4A Regionals Championships on Oct. 25 at Wyandotte County Park in Bonner Springs, Kansas.
Junior Louis Murillo led the way for the Wildcats claiming the overall individual title with a time of 16:44.66. Seniors Nicholas Mechler (7th) and Nathanial Zwahlen (9th) picked up individual medals as well
The girls were paced by freshman Gabby Collins who placed third overall, followed closely by senior Meredith Wolfe, who finished fourth.
The boys’ Regional medalists will be joined by teammates Taylor Ramseyer, Kason Jackson, Jackson McQuality and Nick Crady for the State meet. Kate Barger, Jaycie Thaemert, Brie Jenson, Saige VanMeter and Morgan Darter will round out the roster for the girls.
The State meet will be held at the Wamego Country Club in Wamego, Kansas, on Saturday, Nov. 1. The boys will race at 10 a.m. with the girls following at 11:30 a.m.
