Last month, the De Soto High School football team volunteered for maintenance and cleanup of the De Soto Cemetery. Mayor Tim Maniez also donated $500 to the football team.
“In the fall we trimmed up the bushes and laid down mulch around the outside, and this year we raked up all the leaves and picked up all the trash, and just anything general maintenance that needed to be done,” head coach Brian King said.
“They did more than I would have ever hoped for,” Maniez said.
Many athletes used their own vehicles and tools to get rid of the leaves and trash and even turned down the offer for a meal by Mayor Maniez after their work was done.
“It’s good for our players to learn to serve their community, and it’s good to give back to the community, and I think it helps our football team when we support our community the community gives back,” King said.
The “cemetery has never looked better,” Mayor Maniez said and the football team will continue to do community service projects like this in the future.
