This year, there has been a plethora of senior sports signing at DHS. From rowing to track, many De Soto senior have committed to play a sport for their future schools.
Cassidy Berry is one of these seniors. Last month, Berry signed on to play softball at Emporia State University.
“I got an athletic scholarship… and get half of my school paid for,” said Berry.
Ever since she was a young girl, Berry has been playing softball. When she came to De Soto she became heavily involved in the athletics department. She started playing for De Soto her freshman year and has been playing ever since. Softball is the only sport she has stayed with.
“I used to play basketball, but then I realized that I was too short. Then I played volleyball and found out I sucked at it. So, I just play softball,” said Berry.
Her playing career at DHS has been full of excitement. Last year, she was on the varsity team when they took the State title. She thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
“State was awesome. I love it. I would love to go back because it was just a fun experience,” Berry said.
Berry is excited to continue her playing career as she moves to college. She has shared her hopes for a successful and growth filled college career.
“I’m hoping to become a really good softball player in college, better than I am now I guess. And to be MIAA Player of the Week a couple times,” said Berry.
