Even though the De Soto’s girls’ cross country team was crowned State champs last fall, they aren’t letting it go to their heads. Starting as late as December, all members of the team ran together even though the next season was 10 months away.
“We’ve been running every day since the cross country season ended, throughout the winter, and we’re really maintained our endurance that we had last season,” sophomore Jaycie Thaemert said.
As a team, the expectations are high for the girls’ cross country team due to the fact that they are only losing one person out of the six runners they ran with at the State meet, Rebekah Burgweger.
“It depends on whether we’re 4A or 5A, but the girls are still going to be pretty good, I think our guys are going to be much improved,” head coach Chris McAfee commented.
The cross country team will resume training after the track season, and possibly take a trip to Colorado this summer. The cross country represent De Soto well: There is no off season.
