Most people believe football is all about wearing pads and hitting other guys. New head coach Brian King still believes in the game of football, but his main concern is to turn the players into respectible young adults.
“I expect us to have success [in the game], but I tell them everyday that if you are accountable, you are disciplined and you give it your all everytime everything will fall into place,” King said.
King does not concern himself as much with the wins and losses of the game but instead on preparing the guys for real life.
“I tell the guys that we are here to [help] prepare you for the real world and to be a young man,” King said.
To prepare the guys the way he would like, King talks about what it means to be dedicated and how to work hard.
“Our saying this year is ‘out work, out hit, out want.’ We are trying to get these kids to get that mentality that we will out work everyone we play, we will out hit everyone we play and we will out want everyone we play,” King said.
The idea of being dedicated works really well with the saying and goals of the season. It instills the idea that the harder one works will bring better results, and that is exactly what King wants his players to learn.
“Some of these games it comes down to who wants it more. By teaching these guys a different mentality where it is tougher, more accountable and more reliable it’ll help get us through those tough games and through life,” King said.
