The No. 1 doubles bracket was played by seniors Taylor Cole and Morgan Mishler. Despite difficulties such as limited practice and high heat, the two persevered. Together they won two of the three matches played at the Hayden Quad. In the third round, they won 8-1.
“That entire week was really hot. We could barely run in practice because of the heat, and Thursday was probably even worse than the practice days. It was really hard overcoming that and still doing our best. But we still did well and worked through it, and nobody got dehydrated,” Cole said.
Not only was the weather unfavorable, but the training conditions were adverse as well, according to head coach Justin Hoffman.
“It was the first match out, so thats always a challenge in basic competition. And with it being as hot as it was at practice, we didn’t really get in a lot high level intense match play and just having the confidence to get started,” Hoffman said.
Mishler and Cole played doubles together last year and have improved from last year.
“We are both really good at the net, and we have improved so that we have an advantage at the net… We were doubles partners last year and we understand and talk to each other and work together well,” Cole said.
