The De Soto High School softball team’s regular season is coming to a close, and they have their sights set on the postseason.
After finishing 11-3, the team is headed to Regionals and is looking to do well there. Head coach Junelle Woolery believes that the season went well.
“I think it went well. We had some rough spots, but for the most part the girls pulled together. I’d say 11-3 is a pretty good season but we’re definitely not happy with that and look to continue onto Regionals and hopefully State,” Woolery said.
With a team consisting of several seniors who have signed to play softball at the collegiate level, some even at Division I schools, this team certainly has reasons to want their careers to go out on a high note.
However, this will not be easy. Woolery outlines what the team can do to succeed besides simply putting up a lot of runs.
“If we keep supporting each other and doing what is best for the team, then I think we will have success,” Woolery said. “I would say that if every one of our players keeps pushing in the same direction, then there is nobody that can beat us,”
Last year, the girls finished second at the State tournament and were runners-up. The fact that they did not bring home the championship trophy and glory may be what has installed the girls to fight harder and harder this year.
The girls began their journey for postseason success on May 13, when they beat Sumner 18-0. The team won both of their games on May 14, and advanced to State. State results were not available at time of publication.
