The De Soto High School Wildcats football season is not over yet, which means that postseason has only just begun.

Varsity finished the regular season with a record of 2-4. While junior varsity had the same number of wins and losses throughout the season.

The varsity squad played on Oct. 12, winning on senior night with a score of 16-6 over Bonner Springs, to start District play with a 1-0 record.

The Wildcats have a history of having a losing record before winning at least two of the three District games before advancing to the State playoffs.

DHS has made the playoffs for four straight years. The team started three of those postseason runs with a losing record, including 2009 when DHS ended up winning Districts and ultimately the State quarterfinals.

“I think that we’ll do great. With our history and all that,” junior Curtis Parrish said.

Head coach Tom Byers anticipates winning the last two JV games and postseason for varsity.

“We’re excited right now. We won our first District game of the season against Bonner,” head coach Tom Byers said.

The Wildcats faced Spring Hill on Oct. 19 (results were not available at press time) and will play at St. James on Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.
