According to head coach Lindsay Hothan, the De Soto High School volleyball has seen improvment this season,
The players started to step up their game after winning matches against district rivals Ottawa and Spring Hill and sit with an overall record of 18-17.
On Oct. 4, DHS hosted its annual Dig Pink match against Mill Valley High School. DHS lost the match, but raised around $350 for Breast Cancer research.
A few days later, the Wildcats turned around and hosted the Spike Fest tournament, winning four out of six matches to place fifth.
“The number one thing we have done is sped up our game. Our defense is getting better, and so is our offense,” Hothan said about the last few games.
The goal for the rest of the season, leading up to Sub-State, is to improve and end on a high note.
“I feel like the season has been a work in progress. We’ve had a few obstacles to get through, but we are working hard together everyday in practice. [We] have made so much progress this year and for Sub-State obviously we want to win, but mainly to get better with every game we play and leave the tournament with no regrets,” junior Bri Maskus said.
DHS closed out the regular season with a home loss versus Eudroa High School Oct. 16. The Wildcats earned the No. 3 seed at Sub-State, where they faced Basehor- Linwood High School in the first round. Results were not available at press time.
