On Dec. 1-3, the De Soto High School varsity basketball teams will be competing in the 29th Annual Hays City Shoot-Out at Hays High School. They have been preparing nearly two weeks for this grueling competition.
“We attended this competition two years ago. The boys played in the championships, but the girls did not make it that far. We will change that this year, I’m confident,” said head girls’ basketball coach Jim Bonar.
The DHS basketball team will be up against various high school teams including: Kearney, Colby, Great Bend, Riley County, Newton, Thomas More Prep-Marian and Hays High within the three day tournament.
“There are some big schools in this tournament … with good athleticism and playing skills. But we should hold our own against them,” said head boys’ basketball coach Matt Rice.
Although the competition is tough, coaches and players of both the girls and boys teams are certain that they will perform well.
“I’m very confident that we will do a good job. Hopefully we can win instead of getting second like we did two years ago,” senior basketball player Mason Wedel said.
