Whenever I am in a lull for what to watch, I find myself turning back to a classic, “The Office”, time and time again.
The show began in 2005 and ended in 2013, running for 9 seasons. Even though many people would consider it an older show, fans have elevated it to the status of cult classic.
“The Office” follows the lives of individuals working at a small paper company, Dunder Mifflin, in Scranton Pennsylvania. One of the most notable characters is Michael Scott, the eccentric, well-intentioned but often misguided regional manager of Dunder Mifflin. Dwight Schrute, the weird and slightly disturbed assistant to the regional manager, Jim Halpert, the prankster salesman, and Pam Beesly, the quaint and kind receptionist are the main supporting characters. However the cast is fairly large with more than 15 starring characters through the 9 seasons.
This show is perfect for both a first time binge watch and a hundredth time rewatch. The show includes the perfect balance of comedy and emotion to keep viewers interested and engaged while watching.
I would personally rate this show a 10/10 because I constantly find myself returning to it. Whether it is because of the hilarious, bordering on inappropriate, comedy from the characters, or the realistic struggles the characters face throughout their storyline.
My personal favorite episodes are season 5 episodes 14 and 15 entitled “Stress Relief Part 1 and 2”. I love these episodes because they wonderfully incorporate some particularly hilarious moments, specifically the famous roast of the main character Micheal Scott and the equally as famous CPR scene with Dwight Schrute and the CPR dummy. This episode also features one of my favorite songs “Stayin Alive” by the Bee Gees.
However, I find the development of relationships between the characters most captivating because the viewer gets to watch the characters develop throughout the course of the show. Whether the relationship is a romantic one or just a budding friendship, I find that I am constantly connecting with the characters and immensely enjoy watching them grow and develop on screen.
In the end, “The Office” is an amazing show for both returning fans and new fans alike.
