“Halloween Haunt” at Worlds of Fun occurs every Friday and Saturday night during the month of October. During the day, the park remains normal, but at 6 p.m., the park is suddenly filled with Halloween characters, from zombies to witches and every other Halloween figure in between.
The park is fun to walk through because of the immense amounts of Halloween decorations. A surplus of steam and mist creates a scary ambience to the park. Visitors of the park, including myself, enjoyed this aspect especially.
Beside decorations, there were also creatures scampering around the park. When one is not paying attention, these characters take the opportunity to scare both you and those around you. This part in particular was entertaining because it is always fun to watch someone else be petrified.
While the park decorations and the Halloween characters walking around the park are not particularly frightening by themselves, it all provides a good Halloween atmosphere.
Although the Halloween aspects provide enough entertainment in themselves, the addition of having numerous rides heightened my experience. The walk between the rides remained interesting and varied everywhere i went which prevented me from boredom.
Although I was never bored throughout the park, my favorite part was the haunted houses in the park itself. While they are not as long as normal haunted houses, the Worlds of Fun houses still provide some sort of fear factor. The houses at the park can range from around 10-20 minutes in length depending on the house and how fast your group moves.
In the houses, people are constantly jumping out at you, you hear noises without knowing their origin and you are at some points very confused as to where you are. A situation that sticks out in my mind was when I was attempting to walk through a dark hallway crowded with things hanging from a wall while a strobe light stayed present in the background. This provided a sense of fear and anticipation that has been unforgettable.
The scariest part of the houses, for me, was trying to anticipate when you were going to be scared next. In several instances, I was caught off-guard by people attempting to scare me. Several De Soto High School students have confirmed that they feel the same way.
“The scariest part of the house was when a guy jumped out at me from behind two bodies hanging from the walls,” junior Max Simonian said.
The “Halloween Haunt” provides both entertainment terms of rides as well as haunted houses, making it a bargain price if you’re looking to ride the rides and also visit haunted houses for Halloween. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a immense Halloween fun at a fair price.
