Fashions come and go. Fads run in and out of style faster than a slug hitching a ride on the back of a turtle. One fad that needs to run out of steam soon, however, is the habit of wearing leggings as pants.
Sure, the leggings fit the dress code … barely. But I hardly think that any pair of clothing that shows every curve and bump on a person’s body (just under a thin layer of spandex) counts as appropriate to wear to school.
Come on girls. What happened to modesty?
What started out as a cute pairing of short dresses or extra-long t-shirts over a pair of leggings, has turned into unnecessarily tight leggings paired with the shortest, tightest shirt a girl can find.
While I’m not against leggings, I don’t particularly enjoy knowing too much about people I’d rather not know at all. So please, wear a shirt that covers your lower regions. It doesn’t even have to be a super long shirt. I’m not picky- just cover your butt. Trust me. Nobody wants to see it, and even fewer like to watch you fight with your clothes because they’re so tight they don’t fit.
With the new popularity of leggings comes multiple styles but the worst offspring yet is the “jegging.” Complete with pockets and a zipper, many “jeggings” scream, “I’m pants wear me!” However, anything made of spandex worn on the lower half- unless it’s in the form of a skirt, volleyball uniform or unitard- is not pants and I urge you to cover yourself or step away. Therefore, I recommend everyone to follow a new rule: “If you can see your underwear … beware.” Short, sweet and to the point. It doesn’t take much effort to follow, and all you have to do is cover your butt and other regions when choosing to wear leggings.
For the sake of everyone, please dress appropriately. Just like PDA, it’s your peers that are uncomfortable with how you dress. Modesty is a virtue and as girls we should make more of an effort to preserve it.
