DHS to host Dance Marathon
De Soto High School is hosting a Dance Marathon on April 29 from 7 to 11 p.m. The event will be hosted for the first time on the DHS football field.
“It was actually Mr. Ruff’s idea,” Brent Smith, Student Council president said. “He has been wanting me to pursue it all year.”
The Student Council has been planning the event since January.
“It’s normally a super long event, but due to COVID we will just do a four-hour event instead,” Smith said.
Throughout the four hours in which the event will occur, many fun activities will be held to make the most of the evening.
The Dance Marathon will include activities like ships and sailors, dodgeball, tug of war and many other activities and events.
The most unique aspect is that there will be a dance that is taught throughout the night.
“At the dance event, there will be a morale dance. Basically every hour we will learn an eight-count dance and then at the end of the night we will perform a 32-count dance,” Smith said.
The dance will be focused on having fun and making up for many of the events lost due to COVID-19 restrictions. This event is also a great fundraising opportunity for DHS students to give back to the community.
“We got in touch with the Children’s Miracle Network to host the event and it sounded like a really fun thing to host and be a part of,” Smith said.
The event calls for teams of six to ten people for an entry fee of $10 each, though students can come individually as well. All of the money raised will go towards the Children’s Miracle Network which will help to contribute to many hospitalized children throughout the local area.
The Student Council hopes to see everyone there for a night of dancing, fun and fundraising for a good cause.
