DHS Introduces Office Hours
Remote learning has certainly led to a lot of different changes in a teacher’s form of teaching as well as in their way of trying to reach students.
During Zoom classes, it can be harder for teachers to try and reach every student to make sure they understand the subjects they are discussing in class.
In order to compensate for that and make it easier for students to reach out for help from their teachers, DHS has introduced office hours.
Typically office hours are from 7:30 to 7:50 in the morning and 3:00 to 3:30 in the afternoon, but they differ by teacher. Students can pop in and speak to their teacher if they feel the need to. Teachers and students view office hours as being beneficial.
“Office hours are great. They provide students an opportunity to interact directly with teachers and receive specific feedback and instruction,” technology teacher Ben Stamey said.
Office hours can be the key to a student’s success, especially if they are struggling with a certain subject.
“Last spring my office hours were very successful,” Stamey said.
Students feel similarly about office hours.
“I find them to be super helpful. I’ve joined some of my teachers’ office hours and was actually able to talk to them and ask them questions which is kind of hard to do in class,” junior Lily Werner said.
All in all, office hours can be extremely helpful towards bettering a students understanding of a subject and should be utilized to their full extent.
