Student Council works to plan Winter Homecoming
De Soto High School will be having its annual Winter Homecoming dance on Feb. 8. This year’s WOCO dance is themed “De Soto Disco.”
In past years, it has been commonly known that more students attend the Homecoming dance in the fall rather than in the winter. Student Council sponsor Lori Hughes feels that this may be a result of the higher level of activity during the fall season.
“I do think that there is a lot of energy and excitement in the fall which tends to fade as the school year progresses,” Hughes said.
Although the beginning of the year excitement has faded, Hughes thinks Winter Homecoming can be just as fun as the Homecoming in the fall.
“Students should definitely attend WOCO, especially if they never have before. There’s a little something for everyone, and it’s fun to get dressed up and make an evening out of it,” Hughes said.
Student Council wanted to add another layer of fun to this year’s dance, and members are prompting students to dress as the theme if they wish. Student Council vice president Lucas Nascimento is excited to dress up and hopes other students do too.
“I think it would be really fun if people dressed up as the theme. It would also make things different so that it’s not the same every year,” Nascimento said.
Senior pep lead Aspen Grieshaber hopes that Winter Homecoming will grow this year and is also excited for it to bring a new twist.
“I think WOCO will be different this year because of the excited theme and the encouragement to dress up to the theme,” Grieshaber said.
With Winter Homecoming coming soon and Student Council working hard to make the event new and fun, Nasciemnto wishes all will attend.
“It is more laid back so just come to it to hangout and have some fun,” Nasciemto said.
The dress code for the event is either semi-formal or dressing in disco attire. Tickets are on sale through Feb. 8 and can be purchased at lunch for $8 each or $12 for a couple. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $10, and students and their guests must arrive at the dance before 9 p.m. to attend.
