As the 2018-19 school year comes to an end, De Soto High School is facing many new changes for the next school year.

The DHS staff and students are saying goodbye to Carolyn Rodriguez after 12 years teaching Spanish here at DHS.

Rodriguez has decided to pursue a career as a librarian at the Argentine and Rosedale Middle School Library in Kansas City, Kansas.

“These two schools are both predominantly Hispanic, so I can use my  Spanish. I wanted to use my Spanish speaking skills in a library setting, so this is an excellent match for me,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez’s desicson was one she has been thinking about for a long time and one she is very excited about.

“I love to read. The 21st century library is full of information and technology. I am excited to help students to find material that they need and want and to help them to become good digital citizens,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez has been working for this accomplishment for about a year now.

“Last summer I began taking virtual classes through Fort Hays State University. The Library Media Specialist endorsement program is 18 hours. It is required to have already completed a master’s degree. I have completed 12 hours and will complete three more this summer. Then I will finish fall of 2018,” Rodriguez said.
