HQ quizzes the world
HQ is a free trivia game in the app store, but unlike other free trivia games, HQ is a live game where players can win real money. There are live games every week day at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and on weekends there is one game a day at 8 p.m.
However, there are many complaints about the game, from the lagging that causes people to lose to the host, usually Scott Rogowsky. Despite the complaints and issues, many people come back and some games can have over 1 million people from around the world all playing at once.
Junior Sam McCoy plays daily because of the bonding with her Seminar that comes out of playing HQ.
“In Seminar it’s [the game starts] right before we all leave to go to classes, so everyone plays it at that time, and it’s really funny when the whole Seminar’s playing it together,” McCoy said.
Junior Daniel Apple also plays HQ, and he seems to be luckier than others since he has won before.
“It was really exciting,” Apple said, “I got pretty fortunate on some answers that I guessed on and it just kind of went from there. On the 12th question I was pretty anxious, but I ended up getting it right so it was a pretty cool experience.”
Even though all the winners split $2,500 Apple only got $1.25 when it all was split up evenly.
“The victory wasn’t really about the money, it was more about the experience” Apple said.
McCoy also likes the game for different reasons than winning money.
“I just like that it’s different cause that’s never really happened before, like you don’t really see any games in the app store that are like live and everyone’s playing together,” McCoy said.
HQ is a challenging game and there are very few winners but people still enjoy playing it for the fun experiences and stories they get out of it.
