With the large class of 2018 graduating in the May, many concerns have come up. One concern was if the whole class, as well as guests, could fit in the main gym for the ceremony.
The administration let the seniors vote on whether or not they wanted their graduation indoors or outdoors.
The Class of 2018 has a total of 231 graduates and made the decision to have graduation in the main gym and will have eight tickets per graduate.
“We have been working with our senior class this semester to determine if the students want to host the graduation ceremony inside or outside,” Principal Dustin Mortenson said.
Since it is the seniors graduating, they should get to vote in order to make their graduation memorable.
Having the ceremony outdoors would have allowed the graduates to bring more family members.
For senior Alexa Rosetta, the thought of having more guests is what made her vote for having graduation outdoors.
“I thought being indoors would be too hot, and I wanted to be able to bring more family members and friends,” Rosetta said.
One of the concerns of having graduation outdoors was girls wearing heels, since heels are not allowed on the turf field.
Senior Brayden Brummer voted for an indoor ceremony because it eliminates the hearing, seeing and weather factors an outdoor ceremony might bring.
“I didn’t have any concerns about having enough tickets so I voted indoors,” Brummer said.
USD 232 officials are asking for many inputs from students, parents and teachers about how graduation will be handled in the future for both district high schools. Choices about graduation site, date and time of day are all asked by a survey the district sent out to parents and students. Students and parents are encouraged to fill out the survey that was sent out via the Skyward messaging system last week.
