Here to Help: Valentine’s Day Emergency Protocol
It is now 3 p.m. on the most romantic day of the year and you have absolutely nothing for your special someone. Your palms are getting clammier by the minute and you get that feeling in the pit of your stomach like you’re about ready to crest the hill on a rollercoaster and on the other side is despair. This is a genuine emergency!
To make things worse, according to Statistic Brain, 53 percent of women say they would end their relationship if they didn’t receive a present on the 14th.
Have no fear, there is still much that can be done to save this Valentine’s Day.
For one thing, most Hallmark and Russell Stover’s stores in the area are open until 9 p.m.
There are also plenty of online cards and do-it-yourself Valentine’s options as well for those who can’t drive anywhere this evening or don’t want to spend money. According to avid Pinterest connoisseur and DHS FACS teacher Caroline Friday, homemade gifts are better anyway.
“I think it depends on what it is, but my very favorite gifts of all time are homemade,” Friday said. “Some people make homemade gifts and they’re not very thoughtful or they don’t try very hard, but I think a lot of times homemade gifts are better.”
Breaking up with your partner to avoid all of this is technically an option, but you really should’ve taken care of that yesterday at the latest, you heartless procrastinator.
Overall, it’s important to keep your head. Just because you didn’t plan ahead for today doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. With some creativity, you can get out of Valentine’s Day unscathed.
