In addition to homecoming week, De Soto High School’s annual Powder Puff football game was played on Oct. 19.
Powder Puff is a football game between the girls of each class, which takes place after the homecoming parade on the football field. The freshmen played the sophomores and the juniors played the seniors.
Both games were played at the same time. The football field was divided into two and each game was played on a 50 yard field.
In the freshmen vs. sophomore game, there was good competition, but the sophomores scored a touchdown halfway through the game and the freshmen could not catch the ball. In the end, the freshmen fell to the sophomores, 6-0.
“We really appreciate our student athletes and how they performed this evening,” Principal Dustin Mortenson said.
In the junior vs. senior game, there was again good competition, but the seniors scored an early touchdown and the juniors could not recover.
“Seniors are the best, we are 3-0, we’ve never lost and we knew we would win,” senior Tarah Phongsavath said.
The freshman team was coached by vocal music teacher Mindy Fry and the sophomore team was coached by social studies teacher Lynn Hoffman. The junior team was coached by associate principal Sam Ruff and the senior team was coached by Mortenson.
“I was challenged specifically by Mr. Mortenson to a contest of football strategies,” Ruff said.
