DHS holds first annual freshman activity fair

Every De Soto High School freshman and students new to the school participated in a new activity fair on Aug. 30.

Each club or team at the school had a table with information on their activity, with sign-up options for the freshmen.

Instead of hoping for a glance at the TV in the commons telling them about a club meeting coming up, freshmen were able to wander around and seek out things they are interested in.

Some tables had posters and others had trophies of past achievements. The 3D-Printing Club even brought the 3D-Printer and let it run during the fair.

Many freshmen found it helpful in finding their role in high school.

“It helped me a lot, I didn’t know what was going on, or how to sign up for these clubs before this,” freshman Noah Zuniga said while exploring the tables.

The activity fair is helpful to many freshmen deciding how they want to spend their high school careers.

Without the fair, some freshmen may never have found out about HERO club or other newly formed groups.

“I stopped by the boys’ basketball and FCA (fellowship of christian athletes) tables, and they gave a lot of useful information for how to sign up,” freshman Sam Hashagen said after touring the fair.

The fair was a way for new students to find their niche in DHS and build lasting friend groups through meeting people with similar interests.
