Sewing club plans to start meeting before winter break
De Soto High School teacher Caroline Friday is starting a sewing club at DHS this school year.
DHS students gave Friday the idea for the club.
“Sewing club was an idea I had after several students asked if I was teaching any sewing classes at DHS,” Friday said. “I thought it would be nice to get a group of students who are interested in sewing together so they could sew projects that we pick out as a group, or individual projects they have in mind.”
The club will be picking out multiple projects to complete.
“Sewing Club is going to just be a place for people who already enjoy sewing or want to learn how to sew. We’re going to be doing a couple different projects,” said Sewing Club president, sophomore Payton Faddis.
The first project the club will be completing is a fold-over clutch, according to Faddis.
Friday had hoped to get the club started earlier, but there were a few complications.
“We’ve had a hard time figuring out when everyone is available due to fall activities,” Friday said.
As of now, the club has fifteen people signed up, but Faddis and Friday are both hoping for more members.
“We’re going to just start asking around and hanging up signs to see if anyone is interested,” Faddis said. “We’re also hoping that once we get a few projects done, people will see them and become interested in joining.”
In addition to completing the projects the group picks out together, students will also have other opportunities to do individual projects.
“If you also just need help with sewing or want to do your own thing, you’ll be able to do that too,” Faddis said.
Friday and Faddis hope to start meeting before winter break.
