Before the Queen of Winter Sports dance on Friday, Jan 17, students and staff at De Soto High School were treated to an entertaining pep assembly during seminar.

The students filed into the gymnasium while listening to the DHS pep band play some of their songs.

After everyone had gotten settled, representatives from different classes and activities in the school were called down to compete in Minute to Win It challenges.

The two finalists were junior Dalton Verhulst and sophomore  Braxton Henry. Henry ended up winning the final competition, which forced the two to pick up multiple penne noodles with a plastic straw.

Following the challenges, the audience was introduced to the King and Queen of Winter Sports candidates.

The King candidates were seniors Luke Stenzel, Billy Crady and Eric Williams. Ashton Riffel, Mackenzie Lancaster and Maddy Cater were the Queen candidates.

Following the traditional introductions of candidates, students and staff tuned in to a video that showed the humorous sides of the activities that the candidates are involved in.

Later that evening, at halftime of the basketball game, Williams and Lancaster were announced as King and Queen.

The assembly was concluded when Principal Mark Meyer announced that the junior class had won the Spirit Stick for a second consecutive time.
