De Soto High School welcomed 23 new members into the John Glenn Chapter of the National Honor Society at an induction ceremony held at DHS Nov. 14.
NHS, one of the nation’s premier organizations established to recognize outstanding high school students, serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.
“It was a great night. Mrs. Perry, Mrs. Reif and the existing members of NHS planned a very nice induction ceremony to welcome the newcomers,” Principal Mark Meyer said. “It was a privilege to be a part of the recognition process and celebrate the successes of our students.”
The 2012 inductees include: Kaylee Asher, Michael Buffkin, Rebekah Burgweger, Maddy Cater, Alex Deghand, Kassidy Forshey, Mitch Gehrt, Elaina Grantham, Mackenzie Lancaster, Callie Lane, Shelby Philbrook, Elaine Price, Nelson Reeves, Morgan Riley, Emma Stucki, Erin Sullivan, Madalyn Torline, Eric Williams, Jessica Knaack, Lauryn Leininger, Alec Mackay, Laura Meyers and Micah Sanders.
