October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and De Soto High School is doing its part to get involved by fundraising to raise money for research for this illness.
Breast cancer is a serious issue in today’s society. One in eight women will experience invasive breast cancer in their life time (BreastCancer.org). Due to the fact that the signs do not stick out, breast cancer has the highest death rates, other than lung cancer.
Many doctors recommend that women preform “self-exams” could help reveal the sign of cancer before it has developed into an upper stage.
This exam includes checking for any dis-figuration to the breast itself including lumps, swelling or dimpling. Also check for fluids that excrete from the breast and consult a doctor if anything seems to be different.
A healthy died of organic food is know to reduce risk for breast and ovarian cancer. Researchers linked a study that when young girls eat meats with high hormone counts their bodies store the hormones causing cancer.
Tackle it, hosted by the DHS football team, and Dig Pink, hosted by the DHS volleyball team help give donations to researchers uncover these signs faster and develop preventative care that could potentially save many women and a handful of men.
Dig Pink and Tackle it will bring more money to researchers to help cure and prevent this fatal disease.
