As students and teachers settle into their normal school schedule, there are a couple new things to take note of. Besides the policy changes, this year there is a new resource available for students to take advantage of: a math and science lab that is held in, engineering teacher Todd Peterson’s room (201) during Seminar.
Math teacher Susan Coffee and Peterson host the seminar together and offer homework help to any student that is struggling within a math and/or science-related subject.
In previous years, both teachers would struggle to manage their normal Seminar students, along with question-bearing students at the same time.
“This way we can teach in a more organized, efficient manner,” Peterson said.
Neither teacher has a regular Seminar class anymore. Their sole duty during seminar is to give extra help to struggling students.
“Students working on the same subject can study in a group, that way neither Mrs.Coffee or I has to help individuals with the same question over and over again,” Peterson said.
The turnout has been successful so far. Peterson reports that about 10 students, on average, show up to the seminar each day.
One of the students that have taken advantage of this new opportunity is freshman Braxton Henry.
“Normally I would have had to wait while the teacher was working with someone else, but this time I didn’t have to wait at all for help,” Henry said.
This lab was designed to offer students undivided homework help from teachers, and as more students seek assistance, hopefully the higher the students’ grades will climb.
