People in the De Soto community have come together to help the Adkins-Kuritz family that lost their home due to a fire.
Starside Elementary is doing quite a bit to help raise money for the family. They are doing a coin drive and donating money that they make from McTeacher night to the family and the Green Club is giving their left over food products to them.
Jeff Green, Starside principal, thinks that the community helping the Adkins-Kuritz says a lot about how the community works and that the kids are especially helpful.
“It’s in a kids nature to help someone in need of help when they can,” Green said. De Soto High School is also helping out. The LITE team put together a coin drive that is a battle between the classes to help raise money. Each coin or dollar bill contains a certain amount of points. The group who has the most points in the end wins a sweet treat.
Jeniffer Sosna, LITE team sponsor, helped come up with the idea of the coin drive to help raise money for the family.
“It’s important to help those who are part of the school community, it’s important to give back,” Sosna said.
Sosna thinks that the community coming together to help out the family is a good thing. Also that the coin drive that DHS did was helpful and that it was an easy way to get people included in helping out the family.
Freshman Kody Kuritz, a member of the family, is very grateful that the De Soto community is doing so much to help out.
“It is surprising that the town put so much effort in, and I didn’t expect it,” Kuritz said.
The De Soto community came together in the end to help the Adkins-Kuritz family through their hard time.
