De Soto High School helps students prepare for the ACT test by offering ACT prep classes which cover the areas of math, science and English.
Laura Sixta teaches the science portion of the ACT prep classes, Phillip Hamilton teaches the English portion and Melissa Stone teaches the math portion.
The students learn about math, science and English in different sessions.
By having these classes, it can help the students start college off on the right foot.
“By minimizing test anxiety and learning time management skills and test strategies, students can get a score of which they can be proud of,” Sixta said.
Students that want to learn more to help them get a good ACT score should attend the classes.
“It is meant to give students an introduction in taking it for the first time or a few extra practice sessions to those who have already been studying,” Hamilton said.
Many colleges use scores on the math and English sections to determine placement in college classes. By taking the ACT prep classes, students could achieve a good or better ACT score, which means students might have the opportunity to skip ahead in general education and take more of what interests them in college.
The ACT prep classes are from 6-8 p.m. on the days assigned for each subject. Science is in room #206 on April 3 and 10. English is in room #405 on April 5 and 12. Math is in room #217 on April 4 and 11.
ACT prep classes can be helpful to newcomers, and even students that have attended other sessions.
