The idea of AI has been around since the early 1950’s, AI really started to become popular when in December of 2015, co-founder and CEO of ChatGPT and OpenAI, Sam Altman introduced OpenAI to the public.
On November 30, 2022 ChatGPT was introduced to the public by OpenAI.
Many teachers have been experiencing students using AI in classes, specifically in English classes.
English teacher Ryan Friend said “I think it is okay if they [students] use it as a resource, to start brainstorming, or as a process.”
Sometimes teachers even have to use AI for personal use as well.
When asked if she ever used AI Friend had to say “When I was in grad school I would use it as a base line on finding sources to find a topic.”
Most English teachers use AI detectors to find out if a student is using AI in an essay.
“I think AI detectors are accurate, most of the time,” said Friend.”
AI has also had a big participation in the process of learning foreign languages as well.
AI supposedly provides more accurate feedback on pronunciation, which can help learners develop a more authentic accent.
When asked about AI in foreign language learning Jessica Pennybacker does not think AI will “take over” foreign language learning.
“As of right now I don’t think so because they don’t understand the nuances of culture and the pronunciation of words is inaccurate,” said Pennybacker.
AI has also been used to create music. A quarter of music producers are now using AI in their craft.
In May of 2024, Randy Travis, who can no longer sing and barely talk due to a series of strokes he had several years ago, released a song “Where That Came From.”
Many country fans were pretty excited about it and had the song on repeat.
[blank] went through his old songs and took out his voice and used AI to replicate his voice to sing the words to the song.
AI is also being used in healthcare to improve the speed of diagnosing patients.
AI is analyzing medical imaging data: such as X-Rays, MRIs, and CT scans to assist healthcare professionals in an accurate and swift diagnosis.
AI is definitely changing our lives, so we should start to wonder if it’s for the better or worse?
