Various De Soto High School student athletes have committed to furthering their athletics at the collegiate level this year. Recently, juniors Sadie and Macy Carver have become the latest students to announce their commitments to MidAmerica Nazarene University. 

The Carvers have several accolades and accomplishments through their first three years at DHS. While the Carvers play both basketball and soccer at the high school level, they have always had a passion for soccer. Both Sadie and Macy have been playing soccer for 11 years, developing an interest in the sport at a very young age. 

“I like how it’s a competitive game and how you can get competitive and aggressive,” Sadie said. “I also like that it’s a team sport where I can get closer to my teammates.” 

Macy had similar thoughts on why she enjoys soccer. 

“I just enjoy being a part of a team,” Macy said. 

Their collective passion for the sport led to their consideration of playing soccer at the collegiate level. Sadie and Macy did not want their playing careers to end in high school. 

“I love the sport so much,” Sadie said. “I wanted to continue playing because I liked it so much.” 

Likewise, Macy mentioned her wish to expand on her soccer career. 

“I didn’t want my senior year to be the last time I was going to play,” Macy said. 

Searching for colleges was also part of the Carvers’ journey towards their recent commitment, as choosing schools takes a great amount of consideration.

“I had interest in a few JUCO schools because they’re not as expensive, but I liked MNU because it was so close to home,” Sadie said. 

Macy also considered numerous other schools, but the proximity of MNU to home played a large part in her commitment. 

“I thought about a few other schools, but MNU was only 20 minutes from home,” Macy said. 

The location of MNU was not the only aspect that drew the Carvers’ attention. The school’s coaching staff and team environment appeared welcoming and inviting. 

“All the coaches and girls there are super nice and friendly,” Sadie said. “I also liked the level of play it’s at.” 

All in all, the proximity and team environment at MNU made it the perfect fit for the Carver twins. Having embarked on a tremendous athletic career thus far at DHS, they will look to continue their success at the collegiate level.
