With school ending on May 25, and school starting again on Aug. 14, there is a lot of time to relax. Summer break gives students and teachers both a time to have fun, travel or even just stay home.

Junior Caleb Daniels is excited to help with Camp Goiger in St. Joseph, Missouri. At the camp, he will instruct a camping merit badge system and run a basic skill program for younger scouts. After that camp, he will be headed to Cimmaron, New Mexico to participate in Philmont high adventure camp to hike around 41 miles along with other activities.

“Summer break allows me to experience how I want to run my life outside of a school bell and like most other high schoolers, summer jobs is how I accomplish that,” Daniels said.

Sophomore Connor Cravens is happy to have the opportunity to perform in Masonic Marching band over the summer. The Masonic Marching band is a honor band which performs at the Shrine Bowl during halftime. The band is only given three days to learn the show.

“Summer break is important because it gives students a chance to cool down after the school year and give them time to not worry about too much homework,” Cravens said.

Teacher Inga Kelly is planning on organizing her life and finally settling into her new home in DeSoto.

“I always use summer break as a chance to reconnect with my hobbies, friends, and family. I also love having time to take better care of my mind and spirit since I have time to cook, exercise, and read,” Kelly said.
